I fell head over heals for the Bourjois Rouge Edition Matte Velvets, so when Bourjois Rough Edition Aqua Laque a glosser version arrived, I had to check them out. I’ve had these a while now, in fact I got them the day they were released but have been playing with them for a bit to give them a fair crack of the whip. First, what are they about? These are meant to be mega hydrating lip glosses, with extreme shine intense colour but without the sticky feeling. They do feel wet on the lips and are very cooling too. It’s a nice sensation.
I picked up two shades, a bold and a more neutral shade. They come in 8 shades altogether ranging from the neutrals to the bold reds and to be honest these are not what I expected and I have found that I use them a lot differently to the way I use the Matte additions.
The bright shade that I have I felt went on patchy, it was almost too watery to get that strong bold solid lip colour, but if you build up the layers it creates the stains and they work much better, and last longer on the lips without being irritating. I picked up colour 6 a fairy orange red and 4 a caramel brown with a mauve undertone.
These swatches are from a few layers of the gloss and after a while you are left with a stain that does make it long lasting. Overall I’m happy with these, they are not the first glosses I reach for, and I don’t think I will be buying any more colours, but if you prefer subtle stains to the lips these maybe more you.
